Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

Fort Myers Orthopedic Surgeon: Dr. John Kagan > Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

What is Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP Therapy?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a treatment that relieves pain by promoting long lasting healing of musculoskeletal conditions. Implementing PRP therapy as a viable procedure when necessary has the potential to decrease the progression of more serious injuries, shorten the overall time for healing, and decrease the need for surgical intervention in some instances.

What are the potential benefits of PRP Therapy?

A main benefit of PRP Therapy is that it provides pain relief  and healing and can eliminate the need for surgery and prolonged recovery. It may also be used as a treatment for some people that are not candidates for surgery. PRP Therapy is a low-risk non-invasive procedure. It uses the body’s own cells and natural biological healing process. The concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) that is injected into and around the point of injury jump-starts and significantly strengthens the body’s natural healing process.  Recovery with PRP therapy is much faster than with surgery, often by many months.

Is PRP Therapy right for me?

If you have a tendon or ligament injury and traditional methods have not provided relief, then PRP therapy may be the solution. The procedure is less aggressive and less expensive than surgery. It will heal tissue with minimal or no scarring, and alleviates further degeneration of the tissues.

If you are considering Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, contact Dr. John C. Kagan today for an evaluation to see if PRP therapy is right for you.
